Essential Questions:  
  • How do we explore the concept of cultural identity?
  • How do writers express their voice in academic and/or informal writings?
1.  Do Now:  EQ's and today's Activities in your planner, Journal #3 = summarize what skills will be necessary to successfully complete the EA1 (hint:  remember the rubric, you got into groups to write the skills on the whiteboards)
2.  Activities
  • Names - if there are any left
  • Review 1.2  -  Concepts of Culture  p. 6
  • Vocabulary - Literary Terms in box on p. 2
    • use the glossary to find the definition (in English)
    • write the word and the definition in your Journal
  • Book Cover = spray and peer grade with rubric
  • Begin 1.3  -  "What Is Cultural Identity?" p. 8 
  • If there is time  -   "Ethnic Hash" p. 11
3.  Target Practice: skip 2 lines below your Do Now.  Write the following statements and rank your understanding:

2.  Journal #5: start brainstorming for your reflective essay about your cultural identity - EA1

  • Finish "What Is Cultural Identity?" p. 8  &   "Ethnic Hash" p. 11
  • Begin 1.6  -  "Honestly Frida" p. 27 - video clip, text, painting (OPTIC) - "Legal Alien" p. 32
  • If there is time - drafting time for your EA1 - Due Day 3 next week
4.  Target Practice: skip 2 lines below your Do Now.  Complete 1 choice from the "Check Your Understanding" section of p. 33 - or draw the option presented in class
